115.383 Ongoing medical and mental health care for sexual abuse victims
and abusers
Auditor Overall Determination: Meets Standard
Auditor Discussion
The following evidence was reviewed to determine compliance with Standard
115.383:
Documents Reviewed:
· NNJDC Pre-Audit Questionnaire
· NNJDC Policy 115.383, PREA Ongoing Medical and Mental Health Care
· Facility Site Review Observations
Interviews Conducted:
· PREA Coordinator
· Medical and Mental Health Staff
· Specialized Staff (Risk Screening)
Medical and mental health staff confirmed that resident victims of sexual abuse are
offered medical and mental health evaluations and, as appropriate, treatment
regardless of where the abuse occurred, consistent with NNJDC Policy 115.383(A).
Staff described a coordinated response that includes both facility-based services
and referrals to community providers such as Riverside Medical Center, CSAS, CSB,
and NNPD.
Policy 115.383(B) requires that victims receive follow-up services, treatment
planning, and referrals for continued care upon transfer or release, when
appropriate. Staff indicated that coordination with the Center for Sexual Assault
Survivors (CSAS) supports continuity of care and post-release services.
Consistent with Policy 115.383(C), NNJDC provides evaluation and treatment
services at the community standard of care. Victims of sexually abusive vaginal
penetration are offered pregnancy testing, and Policy 115.383(E) requires access to
all lawful pregnancy-related medical services if pregnancy results from sexual
abuse. Staff confirmed that these services are provided through appropriate medical
channels, including external providers when necessary.
