Oak Avenue feasibility review
The reported Oak Avenue recommendation deserves an explicit current assessment. Its potential
advantage is moving parent loading toward an internal school lot. That potential is a design
hypothesis until the complete study and current geometry establish what would actually change. [R00,
p. 9; R07, p. 2; R09]
Feasibility field
Required verification
Study and site geometry
Readable original study, dated assumptions, lot/drive dimensions, sight lines
and vehicle turning paths.
Pedestrian separation
Continuous protected path from each unloading point to the entrance, with
crossings and supervision identified.
Queue capacity and spillback
Usable storage excluding clear crossings, access and turning areas;
compare peak queues against available space.
Buses and service vehicles
Actual bus dimensions and turning/loading movements, lift use, deliveries
and childcare vehicles.
Parking and accessible
access
Staff/visitor displacement, accessible spaces and routes, safe staff arrival
and departure.
Emergency and neighborhood
access
Fire/EMS review and effects on Oak Avenue, adjacent approaches,
driveways and residents.
Operating resources and cost
Trained duties, backups, maintenance, required physical work, approvals
and incremental expense.
Useful engineering comparisons
Measure usable queue length rather than counting nominal parking spaces. Convert usable storage to
vehicles only with explicit vehicle-length and gap assumptions, and test larger vehicles separately.
Compare the longest observed queue, queue clearance, crossing obstruction and each conflicting
turn for the current and candidate arrangements. These are measurements to obtain, not completed
calculations.
Outcome of the review
The written decision should select one of four outcomes: proceed to an approved trial; redesign the
concept; reject it with a supported explanation; or defer it for specific missing evidence. If rejected or
deferred, identify the interim control and the condition or date for reconsideration. No family routing
change should precede the necessary approvals, physical readiness and communication.Jump to an indexed page (28 of 28)
