subcommittee. He invited interested parties to attend these meetings on the third
Tuesday of each month. He wished everyone Happy Holidays.
Councilman Coleman thanked everyone for their attendance, especially the Newport
News Education Association representatives, noting that education was a main priority
for the City Council and community. He thanked City staff for their work during a busy
year and encouraged them to enjoy the extra day off on Friday, December 26, 2025.
Councilman Harris expressed hope that everyone would have a blessed, safe holiday
season, encouraging people to hug their families and show peace, grace, and love
toward one another, especially those who had lost loved ones during the year.
Vice Mayor Bethany thanked everyone for attending and wished them a Happy and
Safe Holidays.
Mayor Jones thanked everyone involved in the holiday tree lighting at City Center,
including the Communications and Tourism Department, and Public Safety personnel.
He outlined his vision for Newport News in the coming year, to include building more
housing, continued record investment in public schools, ongoing investment in gun
violence reduction techniques, attracting top staff talent, and delivering a "world-class
festival" in the coming year. He concluded by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and
Happy Holidays.
