13 Newport News Police Department 2025 Annual Report Women in Law Enforcement (30x30) NNPD is making strides in advancing women in policing through their continued commitment to the 30x30 pledge. This national initiative aims to increase the number of female officers across the United States, with a goal of having at least 30% sworn female officers by the year 2030. With the National average currently 14%, NNPD is leading the way with 23.28% of the current force being female. NNPD Chaplains Program The Chaplains who serve the Newport News Police Department are vital pillars in fostering relationships within both the law enforcement community and the broader public. Within the department, Chaplains play a multifaceted role, offering spiritual and emotional support to officers and civilians, aiding in crisis intervention, and contributing to the overall mental well-being of the Department. They participate in outreach programs, community events, and educational initiatives. NNPD Chaplains donate thousands of hours of services each year. In 2025, they created the “Safe and Well Wednesday” program, the Community Chaplain Assistant Program and the Field Training Chaplain Volunteer Mentoring Program.
