Jail Operations
The Operations Bureau
manages all that goes
on inside the Newport
News City Jail and An-
nex.
It is like a small city with
hundreds of people
who depend on the
NNSO for housing, food,
medical services,
sanitation, laundry and
more.
Deputies working in the
jail also provide security
to ensure the safety of
the employees and the inmates who are held there while awaiting court hearings
or serving their sentences. In 2024, the jail was a temporary home for approxi-
mately 8,486 men and women.
