ACTION:
A Request to Approve a Resolution Authorizing a Grant of Funds to the Port Warwick
Foundation to Support a Festival in the City of Newport News.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The City of Newport News recognizes the Port Warwick Foundation as a non-profit
organization that brings arts and entertainment to the residents, including its popular
Summer Concert Series.
Under Virginia law, the City is allowed to provide funding to charitable organizations that
serve local residents and help promote the City’s resources and attractions.
To support the Foundation’s efforts, the City plans to contribute up to $3,030,000 to help
fund a special arts and entertainment event scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend 2026. This
funding will be provided under specific terms and conditions.
CITY MANAGER RECOMMENDATION:
City Manager recommends consideration and appropriate action.
