2.4 Potential Sources by Facilities and Land Uses
The Back River and Warwick River TMDL reports identify agricultural and livestock lands, open
water bodies, parks, school properties, and septic systems as primary sources of bacteria,
reflecting activities such as grazing and pet walking that contribute to fecal contamination. Table
3 summarizes these facilities and land uses by source category (livestock, wildlife, pets, and
humans) and watershed, using acreage and facility counts derived from the TMDL reports and
City GIS data. This spatial inventory enables City staff to target interventions, such as evaluating
the adequacy of pet waste receptacles at high-use parks and schools, and prioritizing public
education where it will most effectively reduce bacterial discharges to impaired waters.
