Customs and immigration authority
Title 19 defines customs officers and specifies their federal enforcement powers. Designation and the terms of an officer’s authority matter; the statutes do not automatically confer those powers on every local officer. The separate cooperation-agreement framework in 8 U.S.C. § 1357(g) concerns immigration-officer functions and should not be inferred from a customs designation alone.
Section 1401(i) is supported by the official 2020 Code edition; §§ 1589a and 1357(g) by official 2021 editions. This entry does not describe the terms, current force or implementation of any local agreement.
