At a glance

  • WXY reported that 27 of NNPS’s 40 schools were below 80% utilization, including 20 below 70%. Its calculations accounted for classroom uses and program needs.
  • Twenty-one schools used modular classrooms. Preliminary capacity analysis identified 17 where modulars could potentially be removed.
  • About one in four students attended outside the ordinary neighborhood-school assignment, making transportation and program access central to the boundary study.
  • WXY’s stated schedule called for three draft boundary scenarios in December, followed by another round of community feedback.

The report distinguishes preliminary options from decisions: modular classrooms could potentially be removed at 17 schools, while draft boundary scenarios were still planned for December. NNPS’s stated goals include shorter bus rides, clearer grade-level pathways and equitable access to programs.

Families were invited to send ideas and experiences to efficiency.study@nn.k12.va.us. The findings and proposed schedule reflect the October 3 publication.
