Dear Robert White,
On behalf of Newport News Public Schools, we are pleased to offer you the position of Executive Director, Public
Information & Community Involvement at SUPERINTENDENT'S OFFICE for the 2025-2026 academic year.
This role is a full-time, exempt position, eligible for benefits but not for overtime pay. This contract
spans 245 days over a 12-month period.
Compensation and Contract Terms
Annual Salary: $125,000, aligned with Salary Scale, Grade 53.
Start Date: This position will begin on or after July 1, 2025. The exact start date will be communicated at a
later time.
Payment Schedule and Summer Reserve
Pay is distributed once per month on the last working day.
If you are a 10 or 11 month employee, there will be an opportunity to sign up to receive your pay divided
over a 12-month period (Reserve Pay). Reserve pay cycles still begin with the first paycheck at the end of
September and will conclude in August of the following year. Please note that reserve pay is only available if
you start on the first day of the contract date for your position.
If your first day of employment is after the position’s start date for the school year, your paycheck will be
prorated. This means your pay for the first pay period will be adjusted based on the number of days
remaining in your contract, rather than the full period. Your regular salary/pay rate will apply as usual. Please
note that your total pay will not equate to your full annual salary.
Contract Status and Probationary Period
Virginia law establishes that the attainment of continuing contract status occurs after a three-year
probationary employment period.
Contingencies for Employment
Employment is contingent on the following:
Approval of your background check (including criminal history), references, required hiring documentation,
licensure, and School Board approval.
Criminal history records that include a conviction for a felony and any offense involving sexual molestation,
physical abuse, neglect or rape of a child or any like offense against an adult will result in withdrawal of the
employment offer.
For convictions of crimes of moral turpitude, the employment offer may be rescinded.
If the candidate has already begun work and does not receive Human Resources or School Board approval
upon review of all employment verifications, background checks, information verification or appropriate
medical examinations or tests, or other requirements, the contingent employment offer will be rescinded.
