Dear Lynn,
I hope you are doing well. I am following up on our previous discussions regarding
traffic safety concerns at Discovery STEM Academy and the recommendations
provided by the city鈥檚 engineering department.
Over the past three weeks, I have personally witnessed and documented multiple
traffic infractions within the school zone, including three vehicles being pulled over.
These incidents further validate the concerns raised about student safety and the
ongoing risks posed by the current traffic flow. To reinforce these findings, I will be
submitting a FOIA request for all documented traffic incidents to illustrate the urgent
need for action.
As you are aware, the city鈥檚 engineering recommendations directly address these
ongoing traffic issues. They provide a clear path forward to mitigating these hazards
and ensuring student safety. One of the most impactful long-term solutions is the
relocation of the parent pick-up area. While I understand that such a change cannot
happen mid-school year, it is critical that plans are put in place to implement this
adjustment as soon as possible. The current traffic patterns have repeatedly led to
unsafe conditions, and continuing under the existing setup only prolongs the risk to
students and families.
I urge the city and school administration to prioritize this necessary change and take
the appropriate steps to ensure that the recommended adjustments are implemented in
the near future. I would appreciate an update on how these recommendations are being
addressed and what steps are being taken to improve safety at Discovery STEM
Academy.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response.
